“There’s a lot to Medicaid eligibility. We actually have a ‘Medicaid Basics’ form on our website that provides all of the specific eligibility, it provides all of the exempt assets. For example, people don’t know that you can have a wedding ring, you can have $2,000 in assets, typically, per person. It’s $3,000 for a couple, if both husband and wife need to go into the nursing home at the same time. All of those asset limits and exempt assets, and all that good stuff is on that Medicaid Basics worksheet. We’d encourage people to download that so that they understand exactly what the qualification criteria are for Medicaid.
When we talk about Medicaid, we’re talking about Medicaid Long Term Care. There are different types of Medicaid, and the qualification criteria can be different depending on the program that you’re trying to qualify for. You need to be savvy as far as what programs you’re looking for and what your needs are.
When we do our Medicaid intake, we will ask those questions and make sure that your assets are trying to be structured in a way that you’re going to qualify for whatever program it is that you need.”
